A play on the word “Haiku” and the Hebrew word, “Chai,” meaning “life” as in the popular toast, “L’Chaim,” CHAIku is Next@19th’s venue for all things literary – including Jewy 17 syllable strands. Presented monthlyon the roof of the organization’s scenic courtyard, CHAIku presents the voices of local writers. A new format is being launched for the 2012-2013 season which selects work from an open call for poetry and short prose up to 600 words based on designated themes. The themes include For The Win: Words of Games, Winning and Losingpresented in conjunction with Project Mah Jongg - on display at the Jewish Museum of Florida October 16, 2012 - March 17, 2013. Other themes for the season are Words Of Redemption, Words of Whining & Dining, Words of Wisdom, Words Of War & Peace and Words Of Love. CHAIku events also always include an open mic to close the evening.
