A silent film, The Yellow Ticket features an original score by klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals (co-founder of The Klezmatics) for the silent film starring femme fatale Pola Negri. In addition to violin and vocals by Svigals—considered by many to be the world’s foremost klezmer fiddler—the concert/screening includes piano by Canadian virtuoso Marilyn Lerner whose work spans the worlds of jazz improvisation, klezmer, and 20th century classical music. The Yellow Ticket (1918), the first film to explore antisemitism in Imperial Russia, portrays the story of a young Jewish woman who hides her identity to study medicine in St. Petersburg. Coerced into prostitution to pay the rent, Lea is saved by a beloved professor with a secret of his own.

Performer Frannie Sheridan (co-writer of The Waltonsteins (IRT'96), author of Confessions Of A Jewish Shiksa...Dancing On Hitler's Grave!) presents her latest work, The H Word. The piece is a culturally diverse collection of living stories from 2nd and 3rd generation survivors of the Holocaust, and other attempted extermination of an ethnic, or sexual group, shining light on the common thread, that each and every act of genocide has been predicated on the premise that the victims weren't really human so it was okay to treat them as less than human, with a focus on resilience of spirit, passion for indigenous culture, soulful food and humor.
